Today was my first official day teaching. So I was a bit nervous but in the end I think things went ok.
1st period- the kids were monsters. no one would listen, no one was paying attention, kids screaming everywhere...even my co-teacher who is supposed to keep the kids quiet could not get them to quiet down and so she had to call their homeroom teacher to quiet them down. Hell breaks loose!!!! I thought to myself "if all classes are like this I am not going to survive this"
the following periods actually got gradually better and students seemed a bit more focused. which is good. And now I have a better idea of what level English they have and so I can start thinking and planning for future classes accordingly.
Overall: good experience. think i will survive. btw. the last class was the best! They were super respectful, listened, and participated and all. I think that is officially one of my favorite classes now. :-)
on another note: today I used one of those squat potties/bathrooms for the first time. I think I did pretty well i mean... at least I did not pee on my pants or anything. BUT.... to my surprise. While talking with my good friend Dana about the toilets and all, she was talking about how to best position yourself when you know.... you do your business and suddenly I realized that I had squatted in the wrong direction!!! so you are supposed to squat facing the handle(flush) not the wall, and I was totally facing the wall. Oh well.... that's how one learns.
Today Dana also introduced me to the coolest concept ever. Its called a DVD room. So you go to this place, pick out a movie, and then they give you a room and so you have these huge couches where you lay and watch your movie (like a mini movie theater) but just for you and whomever you are with!!! No worries about kids yelling, people eating smelly foods, etc etc etc... it is AWESOME.
